The Science

The sebaceous gland present in your skin produces oil to lubricate your skin and hair. Normally it produces the right amount of sebum but it gets disrupted when there is a hormonal change such as puberty, pregnancy, menstruation, stress, diet, or while you are under certain medications resulting in an increase in sebum production.

Dead skin cells along with the increase in sebum production block the hair follicles, the pores and lead to bacterial infections – the primary reason for acne.

Scientifically, bentonite clay is said to have a high cation exchange capacity (CEC), which means the ability to hold exchangeable cations. This is an inherent characteristic of the clay, which influences the ability to hold on to essential nutrients and positively charged ions.

Being negatively charged, Bentonite clay attracts and binds with the positively charged impurities like toxins and bacteria and draws them out from the surface of the skin.
